Life Skills & Learning
For your dog!
At Dogvergent, I think a little differently and put the emphasis on you learning to support your dog and keep them safe.
If you need a little outside support with this when life gets busy - read on!

Are you struggling to find time to maintain your dogs education? I understand that work/life balance, especially in a family environment, can mean that you're struggling to maintain your dogs relationship with the outside world. These sessions are a complimentary addition to the work you're doing at home, and to maintain the work you've put in when you don't have the time - no shame, we all get busy and overwhelmed sometimes.
A dogs' education and development ideally needs to be maintained throughout their lifetime, to avoid them learning to cope in less desirable ways, or picking up habits you've tried to avoid. Reinforcing the behaviours you want to see can reduce the risks of your dog slipping back in to old habits. A few rushed walks without the support they need can leave your dog taking a step backwards from all the time you've put in.
These walks are suitable for dogs that have a well rounded development and are, with your support, confident to get ready to go out in the outside environment. If your dog struggles on their walks with excessive pulling, barking, lunging, growling or obsession over balls or other dogs or people, please see Guided Sessions, Dog Walking and Dog Development so that we can support your dog fully and meet them at the stage they are at.
The exception to this is for safety: If you struggle with the physical or mental aspects of working with your dog due to personal disability or current struggles, and you need someone to put in the work so that together you are safe out in public, then I am happy to work on loose lead walking, emergency stop and close contact work (ie middle) alongside supporting you building on your relationship with your dog, so that you can reach a point together where you can safely support your dog and they have the relationship with you to respond where needed.
Packages can be out in public, utilising secure fields, or at home depending on the support you need in your dogs continued learning.
With this package style, I work with your dog, providing them with emotional and social support enabling them to learn and feel safe while we maintain existing skills and introduce new aspects where suitable. Benefitting from mental, emotional and physical stimulation, we will work towards your agreed goals. You should join a minimum of 1 in 5 sessions to ensure that you and your dog are learning together, keeping that relationship you've built and stay on the same path to success.
This package is perfect for people who need additional support in their own learning and development, whether your dog is alone for part of the day and needs a break to get out, or you simply find you need a little extra help, due to work and family commitments, to ensure your dog is set up for success and doesn't lose the work you've put in.
Alternatively, maximise your own learning and development, and your relationship with your dog by joining these sessions.
Initial packages are booked in sets of 5 x 45 minutes to ensure your dog is getting the opportunity to learn consistently. This is an ongoing process where options can overlap and I can support your dog long term. There are no quick fixes or deadline guarantees, simply ongoing support that leaves your dog nourished mentally, emotionally and physically.
Each session is broken down in to several 5-10 minutes focused work interspersed with the opportunity to 'check out' - sniff, relax and enjoy enrichment, meaning that these sessions are suitable for all ages from puppyhood to the golden oldies!
Prior to commencing any package, we'll have a consultation and assessment in your home, these last around 1-2 hours where we can discuss any concerns, the wants and needs you have for your dog, and look at where they are currently in their learning, their emotional state and their development. From here we can work towards a plan. Depending on where your dog is at, sessions may begin in the home to build a relationship that supports me working with them outside. If your dog is struggling with you in daily activities, then I will refer to our Guided Sessions and Dog Development work, to build your relationship and support your dog as they need.
Juggling life with work, a family and dogs can be challenging, I empathise with your situation and together we can find the ideal solution and balance to help you and your dog to keep progressing.
For lead walking, all dogs should have a flat collar and harness ( Y-shaped) with front and back attachment points and a 6ft lead. Extendable leads are not suitable. Dogs must have a well fitted (y-shape) harness for long line work.

I do not offer:
Quick fixes
'Obedience' (do as I say when I say it!) training
Use of aversive tools (Slip leads, check chains, prong collars, e-stim or vibrate collars). If you currently use these, I am very happy to work with you towards removing these in favour for a healthier relationship with your dog and building your relationship so that you can work together without fear or harm. I don't judge the past, we only know what we know until we learn differently - Lets work towards a brighter future together.
